With it’s vertical, glowing pink neon sign, the Sandbar beckons customers of all kinds into it’s relatively simple layout, that is perfect for, well… drinkin’.

The bar at Sandbar Lounge is basically a big open rectangle which allows you to a 270 degree view of your fellow patrons, many of whom you will probably choose to avoid making eye-contact with. The Sandbar attracts all types – from ragged, sandy street people to glossy tourists and everything in-between.

If you’re a smoker, you’ll love this place – it’s has an open and airy feel with ashtrays everywhere.

The music at Sandbar comes from one of those internet connected jukeboxes that allow you to put your songs ahead in the cue for additional money. The music ranges from rock and roll  (usually), to disco and latin. There are two pool tables that are pretty easy to get a game on (rarely busy), and a stage that looks like it’s seen better days.

The last time I was there, a guy came in with a cruiser bike that he wanted 40 bucks for – I showed some interest but played it down immediately and he dropped the price to 30. Upon further inspection, it was pretty rusty and the seat was falling off.. then the price went down to 20 bucks… I passed on it – but it goes to show you what type of experience you can expect at the Sandbar. I enjoyed it.

There is a sign on the space next-door that says a smoke shop is coming soon – that would be a cool compliment to the Sandbar Lounge.

All in all, it’s a good place to go and down some relatively cheap drinks if you’re in the area.

Cons:

  • Some of the bartenders are braindead.
  • The crowd tends to be older – if that is a con for you.

Pros:

  • Some of the bartenders are pretty cool
  • You can smoke
  • Shots are two for the price of one
  • easy-going, interesting crowd
  • Very close to the beach for a divey-type bar

Hands down, the best bowling alley for many reasons, go to bird bowl and go big lebowski to the extreme. The place is old, but kept up pretty well. If you’re looking for a chill place to bowl, with beer on the cheap side – you’re looking for Bird Bowl.

I don’t like that disco bowling shit – and they don’t have it at Bird Bowl. They are open until 3am on Friday and Saturday nights – 1am during the week – this is good.

I bought my girlfriend a pair of socks out of a vending machine here (she wasn’t wearing any), and that’s pretty cool – not tech or new wave but cool.  This is the place to go when you or someone else says

Fuck it dude, let’s go bowlin’

Try not to touch the door handle (use foot or knee), as you enter this absolute dive of a seafood restaurant in Dania Beach, FL.

The BOARD award stands for “Best Oysters at a Roadside Dump”, Place is a total dump and you’ll need a strong stomach to handle the cleanliness and the way the staff looks, but the oysters are amazing.

They have 1.50 draft beers, served in relatively dirty plastic beer steins from 4-6pm Monday through Friday. It’s usually busy and there’s always someone there that is drunk and loud – sometimes it’s the chef. Watch out for flying grease.

Additional dishes tested:

  • Fried Clams Strips – excellent and greasy
  • Fried Grouper
  • French Fries
  • Raw Clams
  • Lots of beer

Protip: Avoid the bathroom at all costs, or bring SCUBA gear or other assisted breathing / aroma blocker devices.

The best pizza in miami is only available at Frankies Pizza on Bird Road in Miami. You can pass this place and miss it too – but when you do finally find it (look for the sign in the picture), you will probably have to wait a little bit. Order ahead on the drive and you’ll be just like a local. There are about 5 barstools that you can sit at and be entertained by the staff that is usually pretty playful.

The best place on Lincoln Road hands down is Zekes – All the beers are $4  and they have what seems to be over 100 choices.

If you’re on Lincoln Road and you don’t feel like paying $7 for a beer with limited choices – go to Zekes, the people watching is as good as anywhere on Lincoln Road, you pay about half the price and have more choices with the beer you’re drinking.

It’s located at 625 Lincoln – basically right in the middle of everything, and they have indoor and lots of outdoor seating.  Check out the reviews for it on Yelp.com here

Cheers!
